Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

... Late season snow expected to continue at times in the central
Oregon Cascades into Friday...

An unseasonably cold late season weather system will continue to
produce snow at times in the central Oregon Cascades and east
slopes into Friday.

The low pressure system will track over the region tonight and
early Friday bringing a period of steady precipitation. Snow
levels will be lowering to around 4500 feet with snow accumulations of
3 to 6 inches possible at elevations above 4500 feet. Some
amounts exceeding 6 inches will be possible closer to the Cascade
mountains. Elevations between 4000 and 4500 feet will see a mix or
rain and snow and could see an inch or two of snow.

Use caution when traveling and doing any outdoor activities in
the Cascades tonight and Friday.
