...Heat advisory in effect from 5 am Saturday to 2 PM PDT Tuesday for all areas except the South Washington...north Oregon...and central Oregon coast...

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a heat advisory for all areas except the South Washington...north Oregon...and central Oregon coast...which is in effect from 5 am Saturday to 2 PM PDT Tuesday.

* Timing: Saturday through at least Tuesday.

* Temperature: high temperatures this weekend will generally be in the mid 80s to mid 90s. Highs climb into the upper 80s to upper 90s early next week. Low temperatures in the upper 50s to near 70 can be expected each night from Saturday night through Wednesday.

* Humidity: it will become increasingly more humid over the weekend...making it feel warmer than the actual air temperature.

* Impacts: the hot and relatively humid conditions will be of more concern to the elderly...the infirm...and the very Young. Be extra cautious when conducting outdoor activities during the afternoon and evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9 1 1.
