Forecast for Texas
Updated: 3:30 am CDT on July 10, 2009
Today
Partly cloudy. Highs around 109. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
... Very hot weather continues through the weekend...
An upper level ridge will continue to build over the region through early next week. The result will be unseasonably warm and dry conditions. Normal high temperatures for this time of year range from the lower to middle 90s... but high temperatures Friday through Sunday are forecast to climb to 10 degrees or more above normal. This means temperatures ranging from 98 to 108 degrees.
As dew point temperatures remain mainly in the 40s and 50s across the panhandles... heat indices are forecast to exceed 100 degrees across much of the region... and may even approach 105 degrees for locations off The Caprock.
People spending time outdoors should limit their activity and drink plenty of liquids... preferably water. Take frequent breaks and wear light colored... loose-fitting clothing. Strenuous activities should be reduced... eliminated or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day. Prolonged exposure combined with physical activity can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
