Now
regional weather discussion... A hot upper level ridge remained the dominant weather feature...with high pressure centered around Childress Texas...and extending west to east. A weak cold front had spent much of the day stalled on the Kansas and Oklahoma border. Early this afternoon...however...radar imagery and surface observations showed the front moving deeper into Oklahoma...from Alva to near Enid and Ponca City. Temperatures had cooled to the upper 90s north of that line. Farther south...temperatures were well above 100 degrees in much of central and western Oklahoma and western North Texas. At 4 PM...Buffalo reported 110 degrees...and Kingfisher reported 109. Meanwhile... southeast Oklahoma had temperatures in the upper 90s...but greater humidity in that region had pushed heat indices to the lower 100s. Wind speeds were mainly between 10 and 15 mph. Occasionally stronger winds and higher gusts will continue in west central and northwest Oklahoma through early evening. Any thunderstorms that develop this evening...are expected to be very isolated...and confined to the region of northern Oklahoma...along the cold front.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 PM CDT Monday.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. Hot temperatures and high humidities will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of water... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors. You should also make sure that pets and livestock have access to fresh water.
