regional weather discussion... A hot upper level ridge remained the dominant weather feature...with high pressure centered around Childress Texas...and extending east to west. At the surface...low pressure in Kansas had drifted eastward overnight. This dragged a weak cold front into extreme northern Oklahoma. At 9 am...the front extended from Manchester to just north of Alva...to near Buffalo and Rosston. The frontal zone will keep winds either calm or light and variable this morning along the state line. Elsewhere...winds will average 10 to 15 mph from the south to southwest...with gusts over 20 mph at times. A surface pressure trough also cut across Oklahoma from Ponca City to Oklahoma City and Duncan...extending to Henrietta Texas. To the west of the trough...afternoon temperatures will be exceptionally hot...reaching at least 105 degrees. Humidity will fall to between 15 and 25 percent. East of the trough...temperatures will range from 99 to 104 degrees...with slightly greater humidity...and heat indices will reach 105 degrees. Meanwhile...back along the Kansas border...the heat of the day will cause low pressure to reorganize back to the west. The weak cold front may lift briefly north of the state line. Thunderstorms will likely develop near the state line...with some potential to bring a wind shift...lightning...and at least some precipitation into far northern Oklahoma.
