regional weather discussion... A hot upper level ridge remained the dominant weather feature...with high pressure centered around Childress Texas...and extending west to east. At the surface...a weak cold front had stalled from southeast Kansas toward the Oklahoma state line north of Alva and Buffalo. The front...and associated pressure trough...had the effect of turning winds to the west across Oklahoma...and to the southwest in Texas. This downslope wind will push temperatures well above 100 degrees across all of western and central Oklahoma and western North Texas. At the same time...mid levels had cooled slightly... preventing a repeat of the 115 degree weather that occurred in northwest Oklahoma the past two days. Despite this...temperatures will still be excessive...with some locations reaching 110 degrees this afternoon. Meanwhile...in the humid air over southeast Oklahoma...temperatures will remain closer to 100 degrees...but heat indices will approach 105. Gusty winds will also be a concern immediately south of the front. A corridor of gusty west to southwest winds will persist into early evening...averaging 15 to 20 mph...with gusts over 25 mph at times. These conditions will affect northwest Oklahoma. Elsewhere...winds will average 10 to 15 mph.
