regional weather discussion... A hot upper level ridge remained the dominant weather feature...with high pressure centered around Childress Texas...and extending east to west. At the surface...low pressure had drifted into southeast Kansas...dragging a weak cold front into extreme northern Oklahoma. At noon...the front had lifted north of Buffalo...and likely remained in place only in far northern Woods and Alfalfa counties. Immediately south of the front...a corridor of gusty west to southwest winds will persist into the afternoon...averaging 15 to 20 mph from...with gusts over 25 mph at times. These conditions will affect northwest Oklahoma. Elsewhere...winds will average 10 to 15 mph. A surface pressure trough also cut across Oklahoma from Stillwater to Purcell and Ringling...extending to Henrietta Texas. To the west of the trough...afternoon temperatures will be exceptionally hot...reaching at least 105 degrees. Humidity will fall to between 15 and 25 percent. East of the trough...temperatures will range from 99 to 104 degrees...with slightly greater humidity...and heat indices will reach 105 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a red flag warning... which is in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
Temperatures will again climb to around 110 degrees in west central and northwest Oklahoma. Humidity will drop as low as 12 to 15 percent this afternoon. Winds will turn from west to southwest... at speeds averaging 15 to 20 mph... with frequent gusts over 25 mph. Isolated thunderstorms may form near Ellis... Woodward... and major counties early this evening... resulting in some dry lightning and erratic winds.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
