The Oklahoma department of emergency management and the National Weather Service have joined to focus public attention on winter weather preparedness across Oklahoma today.
As we were reminded a number of times last winter... winter storms and cold temperatures are not strangers to Oklahoma and can be extremely dangerous. Winter weather preparedness day is a time for oklahomans to think about the winter weather season and to prepare to deal with dangerous winter storms that all too often threaten our state.
The Oklahoma department of emergency management advises everyone to prepare for winter now... before the hectic Holiday pace lets cold weather sneak up on them. To emphasize the need for public awareness... the National Weather Service office in Tulsa will issue several public information statements today. These statements will discuss the effects of winter weather... focus on the need to be prepared... and include winter safety rules for everyones protection.
The purpose of winter weather awareness is to remind people of The Hazards winter weather can pose. Now is the time to review what can happen during winter in Oklahoma... and to make preparations for the upcoming winter season.
