regional weather discussion... Early this morning...skies were clear. A broad area of cool and dry air covered the plains...with high pressure centered near Muskogee Oklahoma. The recent storm system had pushed a strong front into the northern Gulf of Mexico...extending inland...just to the south of the Rio Grande. The next storm system was beginning to take shape over the Rocky Mountains...but this will not bring a chance for rain until Tuesday when the Gulf moisture returns northward. The first influence of the approaching system...will be an increase of southerly winds. In northwest Oklahoma this morning...sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph will hold temperatures in the lower 50s...while the rest of the region will see lighter winds and lows dipping well into the 40s.
