the Flood Warning continues for
the Poteau river near Panama.
* Until further notice.
* At 1:30 PM Wednesday, the stage was 42.74 feet.
* Flood stage is 29.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring but the river is falling.
* Forecast... the Poteau river near Panama will continue falling
but remain above 35.5 feet through Monday morning. Additional
rainfall this week could impact this forecast and later updates
should be monitored.
* Impact... at 43.0 feet, very severe agricultural flooding occurs.
Numerous County roads are totally impassable. A water treatment
facility near Panama is surrounded by high water. This is an
extremely dangerous and life threatening situation.

the Flood Warning continues for
the Poteau river near Poteau.
* Until further notice.
* At 1:45 PM Wednesday, the stage was 31.19 feet.
* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring but the river is slowly falling.
* Forecast... the Poteau river near Poteau will continue falling
but remain above 30 feet through Friday morning and above 28 feet
through Monday morning. Additional rainfall this week could impact
this forecast and later updates should be monitored.
* Impact... at 32.0 feet, extremely severe flooding affects pasture
lands and County roads from southeast of Poteau to the mouth of
Brazil creek. The access Road to the Robert S Kerr Airport may be
flooded. This is a dangerous and life threatening situation.

* at 803 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
no rainfall was falling across the warned area.

The heavy rainfall from the past week has caused area lakes... small
creeks and streams... low water crossings and low lying areas as well
as the major rivers to flood. This flooding will likely continue for
much of this week. Area lakes are near or slightly over full
capacity. High releases are required and this may flood the
downstream river. Also... tributaries that feed into these reservoirs
will also back up and flood until lake levels get under control.
Roads near these lakes may be under water due to flooding from these
lakes... especially Eufaula... Wister... Sardis and Hugo.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur.

Bentonville... Berryville... Cedarville... Charleston... Clayton...
Eufaula... Eureka Springs... Fayetteville... Fort Smith... Hugo...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the Road to
unknown depths. It only takes two feet of rushing water to carry away
most sport utility vehicles and pickups. Take a different Route to
reach your destination or wait until the water recedes. Remember...
most flood related deaths occur in automobiles.
