The Flood Warning continues for
the Poteau river near Panama.
* Until late Wednesday night, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 7:00 PM Monday, the estimated stage was 35.00 feet.
* Flood stage is 29.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring but the river is falling.
* Forecast... the Poteau river near Panama will continue falling to
below flood stage by Wednesday evening.
* Impact... at 35.0 feet, moderate flooding of agricultural lands occur
from Panama to Arkoma. Some local and County roads in the
floodplain become impassable.

the Poteau river near Poteau.
* Until this afternoon, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 2:45 am Tuesday, the stage was 25.10 feet.
* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast... the Poteau river near Poteau will continue falling to
below flood stage by this morning.
* Impact... at 26.0 feet, moderate valley flooding affects croplands
and farm roads from southeast of Poteau to the mouth of Brazil
creek.

* the heavy rainfall from the past week has caused area
lakes... small creeks and streams... low water crossings and low lying
areas as well as the main Stem rivers to flood. This flooding will
likely continue for much of this week. Area lakes are near or over
full capacity. High releases are required and this may flood the
downstream river. Also... tributaries that feed into these reservoirs
will also back up and flood until lake levels get under control.
Roads near the lakes and main Stem rivers may be under water due to
flooding... especially near lakes Eufaula... Wister... Sardis and Hugo.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the Road to
unknown depths. It only takes two feet of rushing water to carry away
most sport utility vehicles and pickups. Take a different Route to
reach your destination or wait until the water recedes. Remember...
most flood related deaths occur in automobiles.

Low water crossings in hilly terrain are especially dangerous in
heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find
alternate routes. It only takes a few inches of swiftly flowing water
to carry vehicles away.
