Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Valentine's Day will be greeted by a storm that will begin the day in the Mississippi Valley before moving eastward into the eastern third of the country. In the colder air to the north, snow is expected to fall through the Ohio Valley before moving into the Northeast in the evening. The warmer air to the north will only allow areas of light to moderate rain to form from Louisiana through the Carolinas. By the end of the day, much of the precipitation from this storm will be off the eastern seaboard, leaving warmer air in the Southern Plains and much colder air in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.

In the West, a storm will track through the Great Basin before slamming into the Rockies, where it will produce much needed high elevation snow. This will not be a tremendous snow producer, but several inches of the white stuff is expected.

Late in the day, a Pacific storm will make its approach to the West Coast. As the storm moves inland, it will instigate rain and high elevation snow in Washington and Oregon. This storm will be the next rain producer for California on Wednesday.

The Northeast will rise in to the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Northern Plains will rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:49 PM EST on February 14, 2012

... Light snow with possible slippery conditions early this afternoon...

The National Weather Service is cautioning travelers to be alert
for possible slippery conditions early this afternoon. Although air
temperatures are above freezing, the onset of a light, wet
snowfall may cause slick spots on untreated pavements, as the
ground temperature may still be colder than the freezing Point of
32 degrees.

1227 PM EST Tue Feb 14 2012

... Snow showers...

Snow showers to move through the following counties...
Belmont... Carroll... Columbiana... Coshocton... Guernsey... Harrison...
Jefferson... Muskingum... Noble... Tuscarawas... Lawrence... Mercer...
Ohio... Marshall... Hancock and Brooke...

At 1215 PM EST National Weather Service Doppler radar in Pittsburgh
indicated the leading edge of light snow showers along a line
extending from 10 miles east of East Palestine to 12 miles east of
Valley Grove... moving east at 20 mph.

Temperatures may be above freezing, but once the change from rain to
wet snow occurs, visibility can be quickly reduces. Also the wet
snow can cause slippery spots on untreated pavement, although
accumulations will remain small. So take extra care traveling.

Please report snow amounts or weather related problems to the
National Weather Service by calling toll free... 1-877-633-6772.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Even light amounts of snowfall will coat untreated roads and
motorists should exercise caution by increasing distance between
vehicles... allowing more distance to stop... and by increased
alertness should visibility suddenly decrease.
