Statement as of 9:39 AM EST on December 08, 2009 ... High wind watch remains in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night... A high wind watch remains in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night. Southerly winds will turn southwest and increase to 30 to 40 mph on Wednesday. Wind gusts in excess of 55 mph will be possible. These strong winds will continue into Wednesday evening before diminishing to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 35 mph overnight. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Remember... a high wind watch means conditions are favorable for a hazardous high wind event in and close to the watch area. 342 PM EST Mon Dec 7 2009 ... High wind watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night... The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a high wind watch... which is in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night. Southwest winds will increase to 30 to 40 mph through the day on Wednesday. Wind gusts in excess of 55 mph will be possible. The strong winds will continue into Wednesday evening before diminishing to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 35 mph overnight. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. |
