evening...
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania...
including the following areas... in Ohio... Ashland... Ashtabula
inland... Ashtabula Lakeshore... Crawford... Cuyahoga... Erie OH...
Geauga... Hancock... Holmes... Huron... Knox... Lake... Lorain...
Lucas... Mahoning... Marion... Medina... Morrow... Ottawa...
Portage... Richland... Sandusky... Seneca... Stark... Summit...
Trumbull... Wayne... wood and Wyandot. In northwest
Pennsylvania... Crawford PA... northern Erie and southern Erie.
* From Friday afternoon through Sunday evening
* wet ground from snowmelt the last couple days will keep soils
saturated across the region. Rainfall combined with the
continued runoff from the remaining snowpack will lead to some
flooding across the region. Most locations will see an inch of
rain with locally higher totals in excess of one and a half
inches possible.
* Creeks and rivers across northeast Ohio into northwestern
Pennsylvania that still have snowpack remaining will see
significant rises when the rains begin Friday night. Locations
along French Creek in northwestern Pennsylvania should
anticipate a moderate flood with major flooding a possibility.
The Grand River is the other concern with moderate flooding a
possibility. Other rivers across the region will likely reach
bankfull or minor flooding levels.
Away from the rivers ponding of water in low lying and poor
drainage areas will likely occur. If a round of heavy rainfall
develops with any thunderstorms then the localized flooding
potential will increase.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Stay tuned to weather radio or other radio and TV
stations for further details or updates
