Statement as of 3:39 PM EST on December 08, 2009 ... High Wind Warning in effect from 7 am Wednesday to 1 am EST Thursday... The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a High Wind Warning... which is in effect from 7 am Wednesday to 1 am EST Thursday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect. *A deepening low pressure system will move northeast into the western Great Lakes by Wednesday morning. A strong cold front will cross the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. Very strong winds will overspread the area Wednesday and continue into Wednesday evening. Southwest to westerly winds will be in the 30 mph to 40 mph range with wind gusts near 60 mph possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Remember... a High Wind Warning means hazardous weather conditions are imminent or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph and/or gusts of 58 mph or higher can be expected. Winds of these magnitudes can cause property damage and power outages. Motorists should use caution... especially those in high profile vehicles. 342 PM EST Mon Dec 7 2009 ... High wind watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night... The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a high wind watch... which is in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night. Southwest winds will increase to 30 to 40 mph through the day on Wednesday. Wind gusts in excess of 55 mph will be possible. The strong winds will continue into Wednesday evening before diminishing to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 35 mph overnight. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. |
