... Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday morning...
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of northeast Kentucky... southeast Ohio and West
Virginia... including the following areas... in northeast
Kentucky... Boyd and Greenup. In southeast Ohio... Athens...
Gallia... Lawrence OH... Meigs and Washington. In West
Virginia... Cabell... Jackson WV... Mason... Pleasants... Tyler...
Wayne and wood.
* Through Wednesday morning
* rainfall early in the weekend... in combination with additional
rainfall and snow melt in the headwaters... will continue to
cause rises on the Ohio River. As the Ohio River rises... small
streams and creeks that flow into the Ohio River will see
backwater problems.
* The Ohio River will continue a strong steady rise through the
weekend and into midweek.
River flood warnings have been issued for Point
Pleasant... Huntington and Ashland... which are forecast be as much
as a foot or so above flood stage Monday into Wednesday. While
other points along the Ohio River are fop recast to crest below
flood stage during this time... most will get to at least three
quarters bankfull.
If additional rainfall and snow melt in the headwaters proves to be
enough to cause stronger rises... then flood warnings may be needed
for these other points. At this time... it appears the flood threat
is least above Point Pleasant... where the Kanawha river empties
into the Ohio River.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those with property... dwellings... and belongings
in areas prone to flooding should prepare and take action.
