Preliminary information for Ross County Ohio tornado.
Location... Summithill Ohio date... July 11th 2009 estimated time... 355 PM EDT maximum ef-scale rating... still being evaluated estimated maximum wind speed... still being evaluated maximum path width... one quarter mile path length... 3.5 miles estimated beginning lat/Lon... 39.2175 N / 83.1117 W ending lat/Lon... 39.1928 N / 83.0541 W
A survey of damage conducted today has confirmed a tornado in southern Ross County. The tornado initial touchdown occurred in the town of summitill. The tornado touched down near State Route 772 and valley Road in Summithill Ohio... where several trees where knocked down. The damage path was intermittent and the length was estimated to be 3.5 miles. The maximum path width was estimated to be one quarter mile. To the southeast of Summithill... along Schaffer Road... 6 homes were damaged. Further southeast in the Denver area... a home received substantial damage with a loss of the roof and some walls down. Downed trees were observed intermittently along this path.
An updated statement will be sent out later today... with more details regarding the damage and the strength of this tornado. Surveys are still being conducted for damage in Pike and Scioto counties. Full reports regarding these storm surveys will be issued later today.
