Statement as of 3:08 PM EST on December 25, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST Saturday... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST Saturday. Rain will overspread the area through early this evening... and continue into the early morning hours. At lower elevations... including the city of Syracuse... temperatures will be near to just above freezing for most of the night... and any ice accumulations will be very light and localized. However... slightly cooler temperatures will allow for more significant ice accumulations in the hills south of Syracuse... with accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch possible later tonight. Temperatures will rise above freezing across the entire area by mid morning Saturday... and the icing threat will end. Travel across the area will become hazardous... especially over the higher elevations south of Auburn and Syracuse. Anyone traveling across that area should allow extra time to reach their destinations as roadways will become slippery and hazardous. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving. |
