... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
10 am EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for freezing rain mixed with snow or sleet..which
is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 10 am EST Saturday. '

Precipitation will move into The Finger lakes this afternoon...
initially starting off as plain rain as surface temperatures warm
to above freezing. Isolated pockets of freezing rain will be
possible late this afternoon where temperatures begin to drop to
near freezing. By evening temperatures will drop below freezing
changing the rain to freezing rain... possibly mixed with snow or
sleet. Precipitation will become widespread late tonight and
continue into Saturday morning before changing back to plain rain.

A light glaze of ice will be possible across these areas through
Saturday morning. The most likely areas to experience icing will
be the higher terrain along and south of a Dundee and
Sheldrake... to Moravia and Syracuse line.

Travel across the area will become hazardous... especially
Friday night as surface temperatures cool. Anyone traveling
across the area should allow extra time to reach their
destinations as roadways will become slippery and hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
