... Lake effect Snow Advisory in effect until 2 am EST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a lake effect
Snow Advisory... which is in effect until 2 am EST Thursday.

A burst of heavy snow this evening may produce difficult travel
along the South Shore of Lake Ontario... including greater
Rochester. A band of lake effect snow is expected to drop south
across Orleans and Monroe counties this evening. Snow may begin to
accumulate during the evening rush hour... with the heaviest snow
expected between 6pm and 11 PM. The band of lake snow is expected
to push further inland and weaken after midnight.

Snowfall rates may briefly reach 1 to 2 inches per hour in the
most intense portion of this band. Expect total accumulations of 3
to 5 inches in the most persistent bands.

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in

A band of moderate to heavy lake effect snow developing over Lake
Ontario is expected to drop south to the South Shore of the lake
through early this evening. Light lake effect snow currently
falling over many areas along the South Shore of the Lake May
increase in coverage and intensity during the evening commute.

A burst of moderate to heavy snow is expected to drop south across
the area this evening... possibly starting as early as the evening
commute. Visibility may be reduced to a half mile or less with
snowfall rates briefly exceeding 1 inch per hour. Roads are
likely to become snow covered and slippery early this evening. Use
caution and allow some extra time to reach your destination.
