The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued an
* urban and small stream flood advisory for Rapid River rises in...
Erie County in western New York...
this includes the cities of... West Seneca... Lancaster...
Lackawanna... Depew... Cheektowaga... Buffalo...
* until 930 PM EDT
* at 627 PM EDT rapid rises were noted on both the Cayuga creek in
Lancaster and Cazenovia creek in West Seneca and the city of
Buffalo. Rainfall of 1 to more than 3 inches over southern Erie
County earlier this afternoon is responsible for the rapid rises.
In fact... rises of more than 2 feet were experienced on Cazenovia
creek upstream from West Seneca earlier this evening.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated in urban
or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
