Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 7:03 PM EDT on July 20, 2008
... The urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until 930 PM EDT for southwestern Otsego... northwestern Delaware and central Chenango counties...
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Bainbridge... Davenport... Guilford... Hartwick... New Berlin... Norwich... Oneonta... Oxford... Sidney and Unadilla.
Rainfall continues across the area with rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches falling in the past two hours. Additional rainfall of one half to possibly as much as one inch will be possible in the next 2 hours. This could lead to minor flooding of low lying and urban areas.
A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Turn around and find another Route.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
Be prepared to take action if the flooding threat increases... or a warning is issued.
