Winter Storm Warning

...Winter Storm Warning in effect from 9 PM Sunday to 6 PM EST Monday...

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect from 9 PM Sunday to 6 PM EST Monday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Locations...Litchfield County Connecticut...Berkshires... southern Vermont...greater capital region...Glens Falls and Saratoga region...helderbergs...Mohawk and Schoharie valleys... Mid Hudson valley...Taconics and the eastern Catskills.

* Hazard types...heavy snow.

* Snow accumulation...8 to 16 inches...with the highest totals across the eastern Catskills...helderbergs...and Berkshires.

* Maximum snowfall rates...an inch or so an hour.

* Timing...snow moving in Sunday evening...becoming heavy at times prior to daybreak Monday...and continuing into the afternoon. The snow will taper to scattered snow showers Monday evening.

* Impacts...hazardous and treacherous travel conditions from late Sunday evening through Monday. Roads will be snow covered and extremely slippery. Unnecessary travel is not recommended.

* Winds...northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

* Temperatures...single digits to teens.

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight... food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
