southeastern Seneca counties...

* at 818 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
strong thunderstorm capable of producing strong gusty winds. This
storm was located near Taughannock Falls... and moving northeast at
35 mph.

* The strong thunderstorm will be near...
West Groton and East Genoa at 830 PM EDT...
Groton and East Venice at 835 PM EDT...
Locke and Fillmore Glen State Park at 840 PM EDT...

the National Weather Service in Binghamton, NY has confirmed a
microburst /straight line wind damage/ near Scipio Center in Cayuga
County New York on 05/21/2013.

Severe winds caused a discontinuous path of sporadic damage to
trees, crossed Owasco Lake and completely destroyed one old barn.

For reference...
a microburst is a convective downdraft with an affected outflow area
of less than 2 1/2 miles wide and peak winds lasting less than
5 minutes. Microbursts may induce dangerous horizontal/vertical
wind shears... which can adversely affect aircraft performance and
cause property damage. Straight-line winds are generally any wind
that is not associated with rotation... used mainly to differentiate
them from tornadic winds.
