Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 10:04 PM PDT on July 07, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 10 am Wednesday morning
through 10 PM Wednesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for the eastern Sierra, Lake Tahoe, northeast
California, and all of western Nevada.

* From 10 am Wednesday morning through 10 PM Wednesday evening.

* Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are forecast to develop over
the Sierra late Wednesday morning, and expand north and
eastward into northeast California and western Nevada during the
afternoon and evening. The highest risks of flash flooding south
of Highway 50 are from roughly 10 am to 4 PM, while the highest
risks north of Highway 50 are from about 2 PM to 10 PM.

* Given that many areas have received substantial rainfall over
the past 3 to 5 days, flash flooding will be quick to occur if
storms with heavy rainfall redevelop Wednesday. The watch
indicates that the ingredients are there to create storms with
heavy rainfall and flash flooding, but not a guarantee those
storms will develop. If excessive cloud cover forms Wednesday
morning, that will limit how strong storms may get and lower the
flash flood risk.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of small streams... creeks
and other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. Recent
burn areas are at particularly high risk of flash flooding. People
in the watch area should monitor weather.Gov/Reno for updates and
be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains and flooding
occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
