... Red flag warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM
PDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a red flag
warning for southern and central Nye County... which is in effect
from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM PDT this evening.

An area of low pressure will move into southwest Oregon late this
afternoon. This will result in increasing south to southwest winds
across Nye County. Wind gusts of 35 mph or greater are possible
for 3 or more hours especially across the higher elevations. In
addition... as the flow aloft turns southwest this will help to dry
out the air mass over the area... resulting in relative humidity
values below 15 percent during the afternoon and evening hours for
at least 3 hours. By later Sunday evening winds are expected to
decrease and relative humidity values will begin recovering.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring or are imminent. A combination of strong
winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create
extreme fire growth potential.
