Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Storm Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:39 PM MST on February 12, 2012

... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Monday morning
through Tuesday afternoon above 4500 feet...

A Winter Storm Watch above 4500 feet remains in effect from
Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

* Timing: late Monday morning through much of Tuesday.

* Snow level: around 5000 feet Monday lowering to between 3500 and
4000 feet late Monday night.

* Total snow accumulations: 8 to 12 inches will be possible
from 4500 to 6000 feet with 12 to 16 inches possible above
6000 feet.

* Winds: south 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph Monday afternoon
becoming west to northwest 10 to 20 mph Tuesday.

* Impacts: a Winter Storm Watch is issued when conditions are
favorable for hazardous winter weather to develop... but the
occurrence is still uncertain. Low visibilities and snow
covered roads could make travel difficult.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Drivers planning to travel on roads above 4500 feet in southern
Nevada and far northwest Arizona Monday afternoon through Tuesday
should be prepared for the possibility of winter weather
conditions.
