Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Through the early morning hours...spotty light snow showers will continue over portions of central and north central New Mexico. Showers will move to the east southeast...impacting locales near Belen...Albuquerque...Manzano...Torreon...Bernalillo...Los Alamos... Jemez Springs...canjillon...Chama...Santa Fe...Cowles...Taos...Red River...and other high elevation areas in the San Juan...jemez...and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. An additional inch or less of accumulation is expected before 7 am...mainly in the higher terrain above 8000 feet. Visibilities will be occasionally reduced to a mile or less in localized areas of snow and freezing fog. Some slick and icy spots may exist on area roads...and the freezing fog will also deposit a glaze of thin ice on some pavement surfaces and roads... especially on bridges and overpasses.

MST this morning.

* Snow accumulations... total of 3 to 5 inches. Locally higher
amounts possible along west and southwest facing slopes.

* Timing... snow will continue to decrease in coverage and
intensity through the late morning.

* Winds... no widespread significant winds are expected.

* Snow levels... falling back to the surface early tonight.

* Local impacts... .snow packed roads... reduced visibilities... and
treacherous travel conditions can be expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
