The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of north and central nm...
including the following areas... Central Highlands... Curry
County... De Baca County... east slopes Sangre de Cristo
Mountains... eastern San Miguel County... Estancia valley... far
northeast Highlands... Guadalupe County... Harding County... Jemez
Mountains... middle Rio Grande Valley/Albuquerque Metro area...
northeast Highlands... northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500
feet/Red River... northwest Highlands... Quay County... Roosevelt
County... Sandia/Manzano Mountains... Santa Fe Metro area... south
Central Highlands... southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet...

* From 2 PM MDT this afternoon through this evening

* a very moist and unstable atmosphere along with strong afternoon
heating will lead to the development of numerous showers and
thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. This activity will
move slowly southward over the area and produce locally heavy
rainfall... increasing the threat for flash flooding.

* Wildfire burn scar areas and urban drainage basins will be the
most susceptible to flash flooding through this evening. A few
areas may receive up to 1.5 inches of rain... with even higher
amounts possible where storms repeatedly impact the same area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
