A northeast to southwest oriented area of showers and thunderstorms will continue from Lincoln County stretching northeast into Quay and Curry counties. This area will maintain a slow drift to the north and northwest for the next several hours. Intensities of the heavier rain producing storms have diminished somewhat since midnight so most of the showers and storms will not produce rain quite as heavy as earlier. Still the stronger storms will produce moderate to locally heavy rainfall...a few cloud to ground lightning strikes... and gusty winds. Through 3 to 4 am MDT...the heaviest activity will be mainly located between Encino and Ruidoso. Hourly rainfall rates with the stronger storms will still approach three quarters of an inch or so. Be alert for high and fast flows in small streams and normally dry arroyos across most of this area.
