Widespread rain and snow showers will continue over northwest and north central New Mexico through mid afternoon. Even an isolated thunderstorm will dot the landscape...mainly in the vicinity of Red River...Costilla...and Los Pinos. The precipitation was developing and being enhanced to the north of a low pressure center aloft that was slowly tracking eastward just northwest of Albuquerque. Significant snowfall accumulations will be limited to the higher terrain generally above 9000 feet where another up to 2 inches are possible before 3pm.

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 PM this evening
to 6 PM MDT Monday...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow remains in effect from 6 PM
this evening to 6 PM MDT Monday.

* Snow accumulations... 5 to 10 inches and locally up to 15 inches.

* Timing... rain and high elevation snow today will change over to
snow across most if not all of the area tonight.

* Winds... becoming northeast at 15 to 25 mph.

* Snow levels... dropping to between 6500 and 7000 feet by Monday
morning with accumulating snow levels falling to near or just
below 7500 feet.

* Local impacts... roads above 7500 feet including Raton and
bobcat passes will likely become snow packed and icy. The
visibility will fall below a half mile during periods of heavy
snow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food...
and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
