... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through
Saturday afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from Friday afternoon through
Saturday afternoon.
* Snow accumulations... significant snowfall accumulations are
possible.
* Timing... the main focus for the heaviest snow looks to be late
Friday through Saturday morning.
* Winds... north to northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up
to 40 mph are expected to develop along and behind the cold
front Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday morning
before diminishing Saturday afternoon. This will create areas
of blowing and drifting snowfall.
* Snow levels... precipitation will initially start out with a
mixture of rain and snow Friday afternoon but temperatures
will plummet behind the cold frontal passage. A transition to
all snow across most of the locations should occur pretty
quickly later Friday afternoon.
* Local impacts... snow is expected to impact travel due to snow
packed roadways and reduced visibilities.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
