... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 am MST
Monday...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow remains in
effect until 5 am MST Monday across northeast New Mexico.
A strong cold front will continue to plunge southward across
northeast New Mexico this afternoon. Behind the cold front... much
colder temperatures... gusty winds... and snow will prevail.
Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are likely across the far
northeast Highlands and Union County. Meanwhile... snow
accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts will be
common across the Raton ridge and Johnson Mesa.
North winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will occur
along and behind the front. This will create dangerous driving
conditions in snow and blowing snow. This includes the Interstate
25 corridor between the Colorado border and Wagon Mound as well as
highways 64 and 87 from Raton to Clayton.
Snow showers will taper off early Monday morning to ease these
hazardous winter weather conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and
blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially in open
areas.
