Nowcast | as of 12:43 PM MDT on August 27, 2014

At 1230 PM MDT...the atmosphere across southern New Mexico and far West Texas was beginning to destabilize as daytime heating started to develop deep clouds as well as a few showers and thunderstorms. Storms were over the Sacramento Mountains in Otero County...as well as in eastern Dona Ana County over the White Sands missile range main Post. In addition satellite was showing enhanced cloud development beginning over the Gila region of southwest New Mexico and over central Hudspeth County in far West Texas. Through the afternoon and into the evening hours scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and track northeast across the region. Some storms may become strong with small hail and gusty outflow winds. The primary threat with today's storms will be heavy rain and isolated flash flooding. If storms approach your location play it safe and seek shelter. If you encounter flood waters find higher ground or turn around and do not attempt to cross.
