Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across western New Mexico through the evening hours. Movement will be toward the northeast at 45 to 50 mph. The strongest storms will be capable of producing wind gusts around 50 mph...a brief heavy downpour...small hail and occasional cloud to ground lightning. These fast moving thunderstorms could produce rainfall amounts ranging from two tenths of an inch to half an inch in less than an hour. Through 830 PM...most of the precipitation will favor southern and eastern Catron County...eastern Cibola County and eastern Rio Arriba County.

* at 636 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing nickel size hail... and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located 25 miles southwest of Rowe... or about 15 miles northeast of Moriarty... and moving northeast at 60 mph.

Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to about 50 mph will continue into early this evening. The strongest winds speeds are expected from the eastern slopes of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains eastward across the Central High plains and northeast Highlands. Strong cross winds will impact the Interstate 25 and 40 corridors.
Motorists should exercise caution while driving in the Wind Advisory area. Sudden gusts of wind may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Extra attention should be given to cross winds.
