Nowcast | as of 11:15 PM MDT on August 21, 2014

Through 2 am MDT...patchy light to moderate rain with isolated embedded thunderstorms will continue over the western quarter of New Mexico for much of the night. This activity will move north northeast at 25 to 30 mph...affecting localities such as Chaco Canyon...Farmington...Shiprock...Gallup...Zuni Pueblo...Quemado... Fence Lake...Zuni Pueblo and Red Hill. A second area will enter Socorro County and southeast Catron County toward midnight and thereafter...spreading north and northeast...affecting localities such as Beaverhead...dusty...the Bosque del Apache and Socorro. Initially rainfall amounts will generally remain near or under three tenths of an inch...however more substantial rains are expected after midnight as more moisture spreads up from the south and a low pressure trough edges closer from the southwest. Occasional...but deadly...cloud to ground lightning...erratic wind gusts up to 40 mph and perhaps an instance or two of small hail will also accompany the thunderstorms.
