The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
east central Sandoval County in north central New Mexico...

* until 915 PM MDT

* at 708 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Expect between 0.8 to 1.25 inches
as a storm tracks eastward towards Cochiti Lake. Forest Road 266
will be impacted. The Borrego... Seguro and Peralta canyons will be
impacted with water flows as they empty into the Rio Grande.

* Locations impacted include...
Cochiti Pueblo... Cochiti Lake... Pena Blanca and Ponderosa.

Other locations affected include Tent Rocks National Monument.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... ditches are deadly. A gentle flow of water can become a
raging torrent in a matter of minutes.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of north and central nm... including the following
areas... Chuska Mountains... east slopes Sangre de Cristo
Mountains... far northwest Highlands... Jemez Mountains... lower
Chama River Valley... northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500
feet/Red River... northwest Highlands... northwest plateau... San
Juan Mountains... southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet...
upper Rio Grande Valley... west Central Highlands... west central
mountains... west Central Plateau and west slopes Sangre de Cristo
Mountains.

* Until midnight MDT tonight

* a very moist airmass remains in place over much of New Mexico...
and this will support scattered to numerous showers and
thunderstorms... primarily over north central to northwestern New
Mexico. Periods of heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding with
rainfall rates commonly 1 to 3 inches per hour.

* Flash flooding will be most susceptible around steep terrain...
urban drainages... and areas that have recently experienced heavy
rainfall over the past few days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
