Nowcast as of 3:12 PM MDT on July 24, 2008
    Now
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact the west central and Southwest Mountains including portions of southwest San Juan County through the late afternoon hours. Some locations that may be impacted by the precipitation include Narbona Pass...Gallup...El Morro...Quemado...Red Hill...Alma and Glenwood. A few of the stronger storms may produce wind gusts up to 40 mph... small hail and locally heavy rains. Rainfall amounts should range from one quarter to one half of an inch...although locally heavier amounts up to one inch are possible. High water flows are likely in arroyos and small streams beneath and downstream from heavy rains. Additionally...frequent cloud to ground lightning is possible with these storms.

    Areal Flood Advisory
    Sponsored by State Farm

Statement as of 4:28 PM MDT on July 24, 2008

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

    * Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
northwestern Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico
northern San Juan County in northwest New Mexico

    * until 630 PM MDT

    * at 425 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rainfall across northern San Juan and northwest Rio Arriba
counties. Most of the heavier precipitation remains over southern
Colorado... but this activity will slide into northern New Mexico.
Heavy rainfall will impact La Plata... Cedar Hill and areas north
of Navajo Dam. High water flows can be expected in Barker Arroyo...
kiffen canyon... Ditch Canyon... Rattlesnake Canyon and Cottonwood
Canyon. Persons camping or hiking in the area should be alert to
high water flows in arroyos and creeks.

    * Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings.

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

    402 PM MDT Thu Jul 24 2008

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

    * Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
Los Alamos County in north central New Mexico
south central Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico
central Sandoval County in north central New Mexico

    * until 530 PM MDT

    * at 359 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
scattered thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall over the Jemez
Mountains. A few locales that will be impacted by the heavy rain
include Jemez Springs... Bandelier National Monument... areas west
of Los Alamos and San Antonio Hot Springs. High water flows can
be expected in jemez river... Rio Cebolla and San Antonio creek.
Persons travelling along Highway 4 should be alert to water over
the Road at low water crossings.

    * Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
    safely.

    248 PM MDT Thu Jul 24 2008

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

    * Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
southwestern Catron County in west central New Mexico

    * until 445 PM MDT

    * at 246 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain between Mogollon and Alma. This will affect the
Whitewater creek and catwalk area. State highways affected
include 159 and 174. The Glenwood area will also most likely
see heavy rain before the storm dissipates. Hourly rainfall
rates will range between 1.25 to 2 inches for a time.

    * Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings.

    Special Weather Statement
    Sponsored by State Farm

Statement as of 4:05 PM MDT on July 24, 2008

... Potential for a significant increase in rain coverage over the
    weekend...

The center of Dolly... only a depression as of late this
afternoon... was located roughly 175 miles southeast of The Big
Bend area and was heading to the west northwest. There is of
course a lot of moisture with this system and... while the system
will continue to weaken... it is looking increasingly likely that
some of that moisture will track into some portion of New Mexico
over the weekend. Computer model tracks are still changing
somewhat... but as of this writing there is a pretty good chance
that the remnants of this system will bring an increase in clouds
and showers... along with a few thunderstorms... to western and
central New Mexico starting Saturday and into at least Sunday.
Eastern New Mexico has a lower but not insignificant chance of
increasing shower and storm activity as well. The increase in
cloud cover may lower somewhat the chance of thunderstorms in the
densest portion of the cloud shield... but rain coverage will
likely be greater than what has occurred the last 2 or 3 days.
While there is still significant uncertainty as to the exact track
of the heaviest rain potential for this system... the best estimate
at this time is for the southwest then west central mountains
region to be affected first... followed by the central... northwest
plateau and north central mountains region.

For the latest information and possible later watches and other
statement on this developing situation... please stay tuned to NOAA
