Through 1 am CDT...thunderstorms continue to produce moderate to heavy rainfall across southeast New Mexico and the upper trans Pecos. Slow northerly movement of these storms is resulting in over one inch per hour rainfall rates. Flooding of low water crossings and other low lying areas is possible. Motorists should avoid traveling on water covered roadways. Areas of fog will impact portions of southeast New Mexico...Permian Basin...and upper trans Pecos. Generally...visibility may drop to below five miles with isolated areas of one mile or less. Motorists should use low beams and reduce vehicle speed when traveling through areas of fog.

At 935 PM MDT... numerous showers and embedded thunderstorms continued to move over the warned area. Storm total precipitation estimates suggest that as much as 3 to 4 inches of rainfall has fallen across portions of southwestern Lea County. Since additional showers and thunderstorms are expected through midnight MDT... the additional rainfall will compound the current flooding situation.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Act quickly if flooding is observed. Move to higher ground.
