Isolated thunderstorms and a few showers will move east at 20 mph through the northern mountains of New Mexico...the upper Rio Grande Valley and the northwest plateau through late afternoon. Most of the showers and storms will be east of a Chama to Cuba to Bernalillo line. Strong storms will be capable of frequent cloud to ground lightning...wind gusts up to 40 mph and small hail. Rainfall amounts will range from one tenth to one half inch. However locally higher amounts are possible...resulting in flooded arroyos and low water crossings.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an
* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for... southeastern Bernalillo County in central New Mexico north central Torrance County in central New Mexico extreme southwestern Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico
* until 615 PM MDT
* at 413 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated heavy rain south of Interstate 40 along the east slopes of the Manzano Mountains. Locations impacted include Edgewood. This includes the small streams and arroyos between Edgewood and Moriarty.
* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small streams and over low water crossings.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
