... Significant winter weather event possible across West Texas
and southeast New Mexico tonight through Tuesday...
A strong upper level low pressure system is currently digging into
northern Mexico and will move across West Texas Monday and Tuesday.
Light snow developed this morning at Queen and Artesia with rain
currently falling across far West Texas. A strong cold front that
passed through the area this morning brought much colder air into
the region resulting in a possible mix of rain... sleet and snow
overnight across the higher elevations.
A rain and snow mix will be possible again Monday for the mountains
and adjacent plains... turning all to snow Monday night and
spreading east Tuesday across The Trans Pecos and Permian Basin.
Precipitation for the plains will begin as rain then mix with sleet
and snow... transitioning over to all snow. A Winter Storm
Warning is in effect tonight for the Guadalupe Mountains and a
Winter Storm Watch is in effect Monday for Eddy County... the Van
Horn region... and the Davis Mountains. Other areas could
experience snowfall accumulations as well by Tuesday and additional
winter weather products may be issued.
Residents and those planning travel across West Texas and southeast
New Mexico should continue to monitor the latest forecasts and
weather conditions as this developing winter weather event develops.
