Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 10:40 AM MDT on October 11, 2008
... Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Hidalgo and Grant counties until 3pm...
Abundant moisture at the surface and aloft combined with a very unstable atmosphere will result in a potential for severe thunderstorm development over Hidalgo and Grant counties today. Any severe thunderstorms that develop may be capable of producing large hail and wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. Very vigorous low pressure aloft over the Great Basin of the United States is sending multiple impulses of energy across the southwestern United States into the southern rockies. This system will continue to slowly move eastward this weekend causing unsettled weather throughout the Borderland. Persons should stay alert for any any future changes to the watch area and be prepared for the likelihood of strong thunderstorms throughout the entire area with hail... strong wind outflows... deadly lightning... and localized heavy rainfall with associated low area flooding.
Persons should listen to NOAA Weather Radio or local television or radio stations for further weather updates.
