Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 10:33 AM MDT on July 06, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect until 10 PM MDT this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of north and central nm... including the following
areas... Central Highlands... Curry County... east slopes Sangre de
Cristo Mountains... eastern San Miguel County... far northeast
Highlands... Guadalupe County... Harding County... northeast
Highlands... Quay County... Raton ridge/Johnson Mesa and Union
County.

* Until 10 PM MDT this evening

* a back door cold front moving into the northeast plains will
provide focus for widespread showers and thunderstorms this
afternoon through this evening. Due to a very moist and
unstable atmosphere... any storm will be capable of very heavy
rain. Slow moving or training storms will exacerbate the flash
flooding threat. One to two inches of rain is likely... with
locally higher amounts possible.

* Burn scar areas and steep terrain... locations that have received
recent heavy rainfall... and urban drainages will be the most
susceptible to flash flooding if heavy rainfall develops.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
