Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:46 PM EDT on March 21, 2010
... Flood Watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday
afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast
New York... including the following areas... in northeast New
Jersey... Bergen... eastern Passaic... Essex... Hudson... Union and
western Passaic. In southeast New York... Orange and Rockland.
* From Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon
* there is the potential from one to one and one half inches of
rain... with locally higher amounts... across the watch area from
late tonight into Tuesday night. The heaviest rain is expected
from late Monday afternoon into Tuesday.
* With river levels across northeast New Jersey and portions of
the lower Hudson Valley running relatively high already... this
rainfall could bring these rivers and small streams in the area
to flood.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
