... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EST Friday...
A coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EST Friday.
With high pressure to our north and low pressure to our south, a strong and persistent northeast flow is expected along the coasts of New Jersey and Delaware into the weekend. As a result, tidal departures will increase. Minor tidal flooding is likely beginning late tonight and moderate tidal flooding is now expected Thursday night through Friday.
On Thursday and Friday, high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront occurs in the early morning hours between 300 am and 500 am and in the late afternoon between 315 PM and 515 PM. High tide on the back bays and along Delaware Bay occurs a little later than it does on the oceanfront.
Location and tide heights...
For Reedy Point... the high tide occurs Thursday around 705 am with a forecast height around 8.5 feet. For Thursday evening, high tide is around 730 PM with a forecast height around 9 feet. For Friday morning, the high tide is around 800 am with a forecast height around 9 feet, and Friday evenings high tide is around 820 PM with a forecast height around 9 feet.
Flooding is expected to begin with tonights high tide cycle. The extended period of onshore winds will inhibit water from draining from the back bays and moderate flooding is expected to occur there also. The potential for tidal flooding is expected to continue into the early part of the weekend.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
Do not park your vehicle in a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Also, avoid roadways that are prone to tidal flooding.
