A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Friday. A
coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST Thursday.
A coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Thursday evening
through Friday afternoon.
With high pressure to our north and low pressure to our south...
a strong and persistent northeast flow is expected along the
coasts of New Jersey and Delaware into the weekend. As a result...
tidal departures will increase. Minor tidal flooding is likely
beginning late tonight and at least moderate tidal flooding is now
expected Thursday night through Friday. Any rainfall during the time of
high tide would exacerbate tidal flooding. Moderate to severe
beach erosion can be expected by the time this event is over.
On Thursday and Friday... high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware
oceanfront occurs in the early morning hours between 300 am and
500 am and in the late afternoon between 315 PM and 515 PM. High
tide on the back bays and along Delaware Bay occurs a little later
than it does on the oceanfront.
Minor tidal flooding is expected for the high tide cycles early
on Thursday morning and late on Thursday afternoon. However... as
tidal departures increase some moderate tidal flooding is possible
during the high tide early on Friday morning. The potential for
tidal flooding will continue into the early part of the weekend.
Location and tide heights...
For Seaside Heights... the high tide occurs Thursday around 310 am
with a forecast height around 6.5 feet. For Thursday afternoon...
high tide is around 325 PM with a forecast height approaching 6.5
feet. For Friday morning... the high tide is around 405 am with a
forecast height around 7.5 feet. Friday afternoons high tide is
around 420 PM with a forecast height around 7.5 feet.
Also... waves off the coasts of New Jersey and Delaware are
forecast to build to around 15 feet or higher from tonight into
the early part of the weekend. As a result... breakers along the
coast may approach 7 or 8 feet with a good deal of beach erosion
anticipated. A high surf advisory has been issued.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for the
development of flooding. Pay close attention to statements...
advisories and warnings... and take action... if necessary.
Do not park your vehicle in a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Also... avoid roadways that are prone to tidal flooding.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect area
beaches... producing rip currents and beach erosion.
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
