... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 10 PM EST this evening for minor tidal flooding...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal Flood Advisory... which is in effect until 10 PM EST this evening.
The strong southerly winds and the deepening low pressure over the mid Atlantic has caused the tidal departures to reach four feet above normal on the tidal Delaware River. In addition, widespread rains across the region has swelled the tributaries and the they have been unable to drain into the Delaware causing some street and Highway flooding adjacent to the river.
Minor tidal flooding occurs with a height of 8.2 ft above mean lower low water.
The high tide tonight at Philadelphia occurs at 730 PM. The normal high tide is near 6 feet above mean lower low water.
The tidal departures are lowering along the Delaware River south of Marcus Hook and we expect this trend to continue to move north along the river.
Wind Advisory
Statement as of 3:57 PM EST on December 09, 2009
... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST Thursday...
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST Thursday.
A west or southwest sustained wind will increase to around 20 mph tonight, and gusts to around 45 mph are expected. The ground is very saturated from the recent rainfall, therefore the possibility of some trees toppling over is greater than with dry ground.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Wind advisories are issued when sustained wind speeds of at least 30 mph and/or wind gusts over 45 mph are expected. Winds of this magnitude could cause minor damage to trees, power lines and weaker structures. If you are traveling through the advisory area, keep a firm grip on the wheel, especially for those driving high profile vehicles and across elevated structures such as bridges.
