Hurricane Bud will continue tracking northeastward on Saturday and decrease to tropical storm strength with winds between 39 and 73 mph (33 to 64 knots). As this system approaches western Mexico, expect increasingly strong winds and heavy rain showers. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo westward through Cabo Corrientes. In the Atlantic Basin, an area of low pressure spinning over the Florida Keys has a moderate chance of tropical cyclone development as this system moves northeastward over the Bahamas. This will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to most of the region, regardless of tropical cyclone development. To the south, a monsoon trough of low pressure lingers over Central America and pulls moisture in from the western Caribbean Sea. This brings moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms to southern Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, and southward into Costa Rica and Panama.

In South America, showers and thunderstorms over the northern countries will diminish due to the northward placement of the monsoon trough in the Pacific Ocean. Thus, only a few showers and thunderstorms are likely over parts of Venezuela and Colombia. To the south, a trough of low pressure lingers offshore of southern Brazil. High pressure building onshore will allow for dry and mild conditions to develop across Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Further south, a strong low pressure system approaches central Chile, bringing heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms onshore with it.
