southern Fairfield... southern Middlesex... southern New Haven
and southern New London. In northeast New Jersey... eastern
Bergen... eastern Essex... eastern Passaic... eastern Union...
Hudson... western Bergen... western Essex... western Passaic and
western Union. In southeast New York... Bronx... Kings
(Brooklyn)... New York (Manhattan)... northern Nassau... northern
Queens... northern Westchester... northwestern Suffolk...
Orange... Putnam... Richmond (staten island)... Rockland...
southern Nassau... southern Queens... southern Westchester and
southwestern Suffolk.

* Through Tuesday

* heavy rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to
increase in coverage this evening into tonight and will continue
on Tuesday as several disturbances track along a frontal
boundary south of the local area.

* Rainfall rates as high as 2 inches per hour are possible... which
would cause flash flooding in urban and poor drainage areas.
These rainfall rates... and saturated ground from heavy rain over
the last 36 hours... could also cause a few flashy streams and
small rivers to go over bankfull in northeastern New
Jersey... the lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

central Essex... southeastern Union... Hudson and Richmond counties...

At 643 PM EDT... an area of strong thunderstorms was over
Tottenville... or over Perth Amboy... moving northeast at 10 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with this storm.

Newark... Elizabeth... Bayonne... Linden... Todt Hill... Huguenot...
Verrazano-Narrows bridge... Union... Port Richmond... Oakwood...
Tompkinsville... Tottenville... Rahway... hillside... Roselle... West
Shore express... hylan Blvd... New Dorp... Heartland Village and
Greenridge.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm... and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
