... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST today... ... Winter Storm Warning now in effect from noon today to 6 am CST Saturday...
The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from noon today to 6 am CST Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST today.
* Timing... the storm system will produce several rounds of precipitation. Areas of freezing drizzle will continue this morning before more significant precipitation begins by late morning into the afternoon. This will be a mix of freezing rain... sleet and snow. Snow is the most likely precipitation type to the northwest of a line from Albion to Wayne with a mix to the south of that. Precipitation will tend to taper off this evening..but another round will impact the region tonight into Thursday morning. This second round will then taper off Thursday morning with a break expected in the heavier precipitation until late Thursday into Thursday night and Friday.
* Snow accumulations... storm total snowfall will be significant... and will range from 8 to 12 inches. Snowfall today will generally be in the 3 to 6 inch range... with additional snow tonight and then again Thursday night into Friday.
* Ice accumulations... some significant ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch are possible to the south of the line from Albion to Wayne with the mixed precipitation.
* Winds... the wind will be increasing Thursday... and strong northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts should continue through Friday night leading to considerable blowing and drifting snow leading to near white out conditions.
* Impacts... this system will produce significant impacts to travel from today through Friday night. Along with significant snowfall and ice accumulations... strong winds will produce blowing and drifting snow leading to reduced visibilities. Due to the combination of the strong winds and ice accumulations... power outages will also be possible from the storm.
